A 200-year tradition of hospitality built on personality - and partnership.

For over two centuries, Greene King pubs have been built on personalities working in partnership. In 1799, a certain Benjamin Greene moved to the bustling town of Bury St Edmunds to establish his own brewing business. In 1806, he entered into partnership with William Buck, an elderly yarn-maker, to acquire the 100-year old Wright’s Brewery in Westgate. Benjamin and William began brewing exceptional ales together - and the rest is history.

The Greene King company headquarters remain in Bury St Edmunds, but since then we have become one of the UK’s leading pub retailer and brewers, listed in the FTSE 250 - with over 3,000 managed and tenanted pubs and hotels around the UK, ranging from city centre pubs to traditional coaching inns.
